Abstract: This study examined the cross-cultural validity of CNV behaviors measured using the Nonviolent Communication Behavior Scale (NVCBS) and explored their potential relationship with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Based on data from two samples (N = 412 Chinese adults and N = 283 English-speaking adults).

Comment: NVC practice is not directly studied here, only a scale that assesses spontaneous behaviors that approximate it are investigated. And the results show that the NVCBS scale used can be broken down into three components: self-connection, authentic self-expression and empathic listening. This article validates this scale on these three measures, comparing it with other already validated questionnaires, and shows that it is negatively associated with a post-traumatic stress questionnaire. One aspect of the study that makes the results more robust is that they were replicated in two independent samples.

Perspective: It would be interesting to evaluate a population of NVC practitioners and see whether they differ from the rest of the population.
